BenchMark are seeking an experienced Tax Accountant to join an established accountancy practice in the UK. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of clients, providing comprehensive tax planning and compliance services. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong tax knowledge and a client-focused approach to contribute to the growth of our practice while advising businesses and individuals on effective tax strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and file tax returns (corporation tax, personal tax, VAT) for a range of clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with UK tax regulations.

• Provide expert advice on tax planning to help clients minimize their tax liabilities, including identifying tax-saving opportunities and advising on business restructuring, inheritance tax, and capital gains tax.

• Manage a diverse portfolio of clients, building strong relationships through regular communication and providing tailored tax solutions.

• Act as the main point of contact between clients and HMRC, handling queries, managing tax investigations, and resolving disputes where necessary.

• Advise clients on VAT-related matters, including compliance, registration, and submission of returns. Assist with complex VAT issues such as partial exemptions, international VAT, and reverse charge mechanisms.

• Monitor changes in UK tax legislation, keeping clients informed of any new tax developments or obligations and ensuring that their tax strategies are adjusted accordingly.

• Prepare tax forecasts and projections to help clients with their financial planning and cash flow management.

• Review tax computations and work completed by junior team members, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.

• Assist clients with tax audits and investigations, preparing necessary documentation and liaising with tax authorities.

• Work closely with other departments within the firm, such as accounting and audit, to ensure a comprehensive service offering for clients.

Requirements

• Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CTA) or working towards a relevant tax qualification.

• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in tax accounting within an accountancy practice.

• In-depth knowledge of UK tax legislation and compliance.

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial information and tax laws.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on delivering exceptional client service.

• Proven ability to manage multiple clients and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Proficiency in tax software and general accounting packages (e.g., Sage, Xero, IRIS).

• Commercial awareness and the ability to identify tax-saving opportunities for clients.
