Our client, a market leader in the highways industry, are seeking a motivated individual for the role of Drainage Inspector in Cheshire East.

Cheshire East Highways oversees the maintenance and management of over 2,700 kilometers of roadways, ensuring top-tier service standards across the Cheshire East area.

Job Description

Working within an existing team, the Drainage Inspector will support the Senior Flood Risk Investigation Officer in implementing and communicating the requirements and new duties associated with the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 (Schedule 3).

A key part of the role will be the inspection of identified flood risk assets across the borough, knowing what condition these assets are in will underpin our risk-based approach to asset management.

This information is used to help us plan work and target our resources. You will also be responsible for investigating ‘significant’ flooding issues across your patch of Cheshire East as well as supporting other Flood Risk Officers when required during/ following flood events.

The Drainage Inspector will also help oversee and coordinate works undertaken as part of the Level 3 programme, while gaining a chance to supervise transient/ad-hoc level 2 works.

There will also be opportunities to help identify and prepare business cases for external funding opportunities, which may lead to larger multi-agency projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • To assist the Senior Flood Risk Investigation Officer in the delivery of the flood risk functions, new duties and responsibilities
  • To manage formal flood investigations, report, and relay pertinent information to the relevant audience
  • To help develop, maintain, and review relevant Highway Investment and Local transport programmes of work consistent with the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy
  • To assist with delivery of Strategic Flood Risk Management Body and Flood Risk Management Strategy
  • To assist with regulation and technical adequacy of new developments and drainage works activity
  • To assist with the review and maintenance of a record of critical structures or features (asset register) considered to be a local flood risk and advise on asset technical and health and safety improvements where necessary
  • To assist with reviewing and improve the quality of the existing data relating to flood risk in the local area
  • To improve the understanding of flood risk in the local area by reviewing existing information and data and by seeking additional data sources

About You

  • Full clean driving licence
  • Confidence in corresponding with members of the public, Council Members, MP’s and stakeholders using all forms of communication
  • Empathetic and compassionate
  • Working knowledge of legislation and technical requirements relevant to Flood Risk Management and other related disciplines
  • Work well as part of a team and under your own initiative
  • Competent using Microsoft package; Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.
