Quantity Surveyor – Groundworks Contractor – London

AA Euro Group are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Quantity Surveyor to join our clients team, a leading specialist groundworks contractor in London. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quantity surveying within the construction industry, specifically in groundworks, civil engineering, and infrastructure projects. The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for managing all costs related to groundworks projects from initial estimates to final account settlement, ensuring value for money while maintaining the required standards and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Cost Management & Estimating:

  • Prepare, monitor, and control budgets and costs throughout the lifecycle of projects.
  • Produce accurate cost estimates and tender documents for groundworks projects.
  • Conduct cost analysis and present reports on project costings.
  • Evaluate and negotiate subcontractor and supplier costs to ensure best value.

2. Contract Administration:

  • Assist in the preparation and review of contracts, including the use of JCT, NEC, and bespoke forms of contract.
  • Manage contract changes, including variations, claims, and extension of time requests.
  • Prepare and issue interim valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts.
  • Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure clear communication and resolution of contractual issues.

3. Procurement & Supply Chain Management:

  • Identify, assess, and select suppliers and subcontractors for groundworks projects.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure best value.
  • Ensure that all procurement activities are conducted in line with company policies and procedures.

4. Risk Management:

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate financial and contractual risks associated with groundworks projects.
  • Ensure that all risk management processes are adhered to and that any potential risks are flagged and addressed promptly.

5. Financial Reporting & Budget Control:

  • Monitor and report on project finances, including cash flow forecasting and budget management.
  • Prepare monthly cost/value reconciliations and financial reports for senior management.
  • Assist in the preparation of management accounts and financial statements as required.

6. Site Visits & Inspections:

  • Conduct regular site visits to assess progress, measure quantities, and verify works completed.
  • Liaise with site managers and supervisors to ensure works are carried out in accordance with contractual specifications and requirements.
  • Ensure that any discrepancies or issues identified during site visits are reported and resolved promptly.

7. Compliance & Documentation:

  • Ensure that all work complies with legal, regulatory, and industry standards, including health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including contracts, payment certificates, and correspondence.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
    • Professional membership (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is highly desirable.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor, preferably within the groundworks, civil engineering, or infrastructure sectors.
    • Proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Full UK driving license.
    • Willingness to travel to sites across London and surrounding areas.
