Our client is a leading Tier 1 Main Contractor specialising in the construction of large-scale industrial warehouse units, with projects ranging up to £100 million in value. They pride themselves on delivering high-quality, innovative construction solutions and have a strong reputation within the Industrial and Logistics sector. Due to continued growth and success, they are seeking a dedicated and experienced Design Manager to join their team based in the Bristol area.

Role Overview:

As a Design Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the delivery of high-profile industrial and logistics projects. Based on-site in Bristol, you will be responsible for overseeing the design process, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards. You will work closely with project managers, architects, engineers and subcontractors to drive the design process, resolve any issues and ensure that all project requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the Design Process: Oversee and coordinate the design process from concept through to construction phase, ensuring that all design documentation is compliant with client requirements, industry standards, and statutory regulations.
  2. Liaison and Coordination: Act as the main point of contact for design-related matters, liaising between internal teams, clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
  3. Quality Control: Ensure that all designs meet the company's high standards of quality, functionality, and safety. Perform regular design reviews and audits to maintain project compliance.
  4. Cost and Time Management: Work closely with the commercial and project management teams to ensure design is aligned with project budgets and timelines. Identify potential design changes and variations early to mitigate cost and schedule impacts.
  5. Problem Solving: Proactively identify design issues and develop effective solutions to address them, minimizing disruptions to project progress.
  6. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed records of design meetings, decisions, and changes. Prepare regular progress reports for senior management and clients.
  7. Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure all design activities adhere to relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations, and manage design-related risks effectively.

To Be Successful: 

  • Experience: Proven experience as a Design Manager within the construction industry, preferably with a Tier 1 Main Contractor. Experience with industrial and logistics projects is essential.
  • Qualifications: Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Professional membership with a recognized industry body (e.g., CIOB, RIBA) is advantageous.
  • Skills: Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership abilities.
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of design processes, building regulations, and construction methods. Familiarity with CAD software and design management tools.
  • Team Player: Positive attitude and a collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively within a project team environment.
  • Location: Willingness to work on-site in the Bristol area and travel to other locations as required.

Benefits:

Basic Salary: £65,000 - £75,000 per annum, depending on experience.
Car Allowance: 10% of basic salary on top
