Dunbar Education are representing a Primary School in St albans that are looking for a full-time Teaching Assistant with experience in the SEN sector (specifically Autism).

The hours are 8:30am-3:30pm, Monday-Friday.

As an Autism Support Teaching Assistant, you'll be part of a dedicated team that works closely with pupils with diverse needs, providing the support they need to overcome challenges and thrive in their learning environment.

What You'll Do:

You'll be right there alongside the experienced teachers and INCO (Inclusion Coordinator), providing tailored support to pupils with autism. Your day-to-day will include:

  • Offering one-on-one support to pupils with autism, both in the classroom and during specialised activities, helping them engage with their learning and feel confident.
  • Assisting in implementing Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) and supporting behaviour management strategies to ensure each pupil gets the guidance they need.
  • Working with teachers to adapt lesson materials and teaching methods, making sure everything fits the unique needs of each pupil.
  • Promoting inclusion and building positive relationships between pupils, staff, and parents/carers, creating an environment where everyone feels valued.
  • Keeping an eye on pupil progress, and providing regular feedback to teachers and parents/carers to celebrate achievements and address any concerns.

What We're Looking For:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, particularly autism, is a big plus.
  • Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant certificate, CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools, or equivalent would be ideal.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to connect with pupils, colleagues, and parents/carers.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with autism in their learning and development.
  • Flexibility and a positive attitude, ready to adapt to the evolving needs of the pupils and the school.
