The Company: 

Theo James Recruitment is seeking a skilled and dynamic Lead Quality Engineer for a prestigious aerospace company based in Gloucester. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to lead quality assurance and control initiatives, ensuring the highest standards are maintained throughout the production process. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing compliance with aerospace regulations, conducting audits, and driving continuous improvement strategies. With a strong background in quality engineering within the aerospace industry, the ideal candidate will possess leadership skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering excellence in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. Hours: 37.5 hours and core hours are 9am – 4pm (some flexibility outside of core hours can be discussed) 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead, coach, and develop a team of quality engineers and technicians to meet departmental objectives.
Design, implement, and sustain quality assurance systems and processes to ensure alignment with aerospace standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001).
Conduct root cause analysis and initiate corrective and preventive measures (CAPA) to resolve any quality concerns.
Carry out audits to ensure compliance with both internal and external quality standards and regulatory frameworks.
Collaborate with teams across design, manufacturing, and supply chain to embed quality throughout the entire product lifecycle.
Review and validate engineering changes, production processes, and documentation to assess quality impact.
Interpret and analyze quality data to identify trends and pinpoint areas for potential improvement.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and other industry-proven methodologies.
Liaise with customers and regulatory bodies to address quality issues and ensure swift resolutions.
Prepare and present detailed quality reports, key metrics, and actionable recommendations to senior management.
Participate in and lead internal, customer, and third-party audits, ensuring all business aspects are thoroughly covered.
Act as the primary contact for quality concerns during production meetings and support ongoing production efforts.
Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities.
Assist in developing and maintaining FMEA, PPAP, and APQP documentation by customer and regulatory requirements.
Perform additional quality-related tasks as required.

Skills & Behaviors:

Extensive experience in quality engineering within the aerospace industry.
Deep understanding of aerospace standards and regulatory requirements (AS9100, ISO 9001).
Proficient in quality tools and methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean, FMEA, SPC, and root cause analysis.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively.
Certifications in quality management (e.g., ASQ CQE, Six Sigma Black Belt are desirable) 
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time and meet deadlines effectively.
A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related field is required, with an advanced degree preferred.
