Location: Thetford, IP24 1PB

Salary: FTE: £23,114 - £23,893 per annum, Pro rata: £8,357 - £8,795 per annum, including holiday allowance

Contract Type: Fixed term, Part time, Term time + 1 weeks (39 weeks)

Hours: 15 hours 25 minutes per week

The Primary School is a member of the Education Trust. The Trust is an expanding multi-academy trust with 10 primary and 7 secondary schools.

The Role

The Primary School is looking to appoint a reliable and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to join their friendly and happy team in 2024. The successful candidate will support the professional work of teachers as directed.

This role is linked to one specific high needs child at the school and hence is fixed term for the duration of the child’s continuation at the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To attend to the personal and social needs of pupils and any other special requirements depending on the nature of a pupil’s special needs and, wherever possible, making these part of the learning experience;
  • Promote inclusion and acceptance of pupils while encouraging constructive relationships within the classroom and with parents;
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes;
  • Undertake structured and agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses, including undertaking literacy and numeracy programmes, recording achievement and progress and feeding back to the teacher.

Skills and Qualifications

  • GCSE or equivalent level, including at least a Grade 4 (previously Grade C) in English and Mathematics
  • Previous experience working with children, preferably primary school age, in a classroom or similar environment is highly desirable.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and tactfully using appropriate methods and  an awareness of the impact of your own communication on others;
  • Able to maintain positive relationships with all and able to work as an effective and  flexible part of a team; willing to change methods of work and routines to benefit  the team;
  • Be able to multi-task and work under pressure;
  • Be flexible and resilient in managing and executing their daily responsibilities;
  • Able to demonstrate strong planning and organisational skills;
  • Willingness to accept responsibility for your own actions;
