Salary: £26,775 (with £3,000 market supplement)
Location: South and West London/North and East London
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
 
Role Overview:
An opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Mentoring Coordinator to join a team delivering a community mentoring service in London. This service is aimed at supporting male service users on community sentences, with the goal of addressing thinking, behaviour, and attitudes that contribute to offending. The role is focusing on reducing reoffending among persistent offenders with complex needs.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop holistic action plans with individuals on probation, focusing on personal development and practical support.
  • Deliver one-to-one mentoring sessions aimed at fostering resilience, improving decision-making, and overcoming barriers to successful community reintegration.
  • Accompany service users to appointments related to housing, employment, benefits, and health as needed.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers to deliver mentoring services to individuals on community sentences.
  • Collaborate closely with probation practitioners to ensure alignment on case management and celebrate successes.
  • Keep accurate records, updating case management systems to track progress and outcomes.
Skills and Experience:
Essential:
  • Proven experience working with individuals with multiple or complex needs.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding best practices for vulnerable adults and children.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to foster engagement, motivation, and trust among service users.
  • High level of organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system and its impact on personal wellbeing.
Desirable:
  • Experience in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers.
  • Experience in multi-agency environments and developing partnerships.
  • Knowledge or experience of managing risk in a similar setting.

  • An empathetic approach, particularly toward individuals and families affected by the criminal justice system.

This role will require travel across London and occasional national travel for meetings or training. Flexibility in working hours is necessary to accommodate the needs of service users and volunteers, which may include some early mornings, evenings, or weekends.
