As one of the UK’s largest independent manufacturers supplying to the commercial sector my client manufactures fine chemicals and rubber accelerators and has a history spanning over 150 years. With their headquarters in West Bromwich, they are true pioneers within the chemicals industry.

This is an excellent opportunity to work as part of a highly skilled installation, maintenance and calibration team within a lower tier COMAH facility.

Working within this talented team and reporting into the E&I Manager, the key responsibilities for your new role are as follows:

  • The full life-cycle management of chemical plant instrumentation projects from conceptualisation, design through to commissioning involving all different types of instrumentation and control systems. E.g. level, flow, temperature, pressure, mass instrumentation, PLC controllers, safety instrumented systems & intrinsic safety etc.
  • The ability to manage the modification of plant instrumentation systems via a management of change system.
  • The ability to create/modify instrumentation drawings using CAD or similar software and familiarity with all types of Instrumentation documents e.g., loop drawings, I/O lists, P&ID’s, network architecture diagrams, bill of quantities, equipment schedule, etc.
  • Maintaining records on all items including modifications, repairs, specifications etc.
  • Have experience working within the chemical process or other similar regulated industries. E.g. Pharmaceutical, Petro-chem, Food, or Oil & Gas
  • Experience of and a good understanding of the instrumentation aspects of DSEAR/ATEX compliance.
  • Good understanding of control, safety systems and functional safety standards IEC61508 & IEC61511 and be able to manage proof tests along HSE guidelines.
  • Sound knowledge of HSE requirements.
  • A good knowledge of Planned Preventive Maintenance, Total Productive Maintenance and continuous improvement will be highly beneficial.
  • Experienced in working to ISO 9001 standards.
  • Possess working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

My client is keen to hear from people who possess a recognised Instrument apprenticeship and educated to HNC level as a minimum and 4 to 5 years’ experience with the management of instrumentation projects as a minimum. Regardless of previous expertise, you will be a team player, by nature, and be able to communicate effectively with various departments of the business.

The working hours for the role are Monday-Friday 8am to 4.30pm and opportunities for further progression are readily available for those who want it.
