About the Role

The Deputy Technician/Assistant Technical Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of all technical services for stage productions and events. This role includes responsibility for the oversight of lighting, fly system, fire curtain operations, stage cues, and sound. The individual will also deputise for the Technical Manager as required and work closely with clients, staff, and patrons to maintain high standards of technical delivery and safety compliance

Your Responsibilities

  • Support department supervisors in organising technical aspects of events, including load-ins, rehearsals, performances, and load-outs.
  • Ensure all technical work activities comply with ASM Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Promote and enforce safe working practices among technical crew and staff.
  • Act as the main point of contact for production touring personnel, venue staff, services, and contractors.
  • Act as Technical Number 2, deputising for the Technical Manager when absent.
  • Oversee all technical operations and staff in the Technical Manager’s absence.
  • Supervise stagehands, joiners, lighting, and sound technicians when the Technical Officer is unavailable.
  • Prepare the stage and backstage facilities before and during events, ensuring all technical elements are set up and functioning.
  • Assist with venue operational and maintenance duties, including Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)
  • Report and address maintenance issues to ensure equipment and facilities are safe for use.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Technical Officer, Event Coordinator, or Theatre Director to ensure the smooth running of events and venue operations.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Experience of working in a technical capacity on stage. Comfortable with the challenges this brings including experience of stage, lighting and sound systems.
  • To be able to prioritise and plan workload..
  • An awareness of office based IT systems for report writing.
  • Capable of integrating into a new team, demonstrating the ability to work both alone and as a team member.

Important: this is a part-time position working 15 hours a week.
