Overview

Our client is one of the UK’s largest and fastest growing multi-disciplined consultancy service providers, with an excellent reputation for their breadth of capability and their capacity to provide innovative solutions for challenging projects.  Their Cost Consultancy business are responsible for some of the most strategically important projects in the UK. They provide their clients with high quality cost advice on the capital and whole life cost of their buildings with an increasing focus on carbon reduction.

Due to our continued success in securing major projects in the South West they have identified a need for an experienced Senior Cost Manager to join become part of their Cost Management leadership team within their Bristol office.  You will become an important part of a high-performance multi-disciplinary team utilising the latest technology to deliver cost advice. You will be responsible for overseeing project delivery (large residential projects), management of multi-disciplined teams and line management duties. You will be delivering technical excellence on a frequent basis and promoting learning opportunities to other staff. You will be professional qualified and assisting others in their development.

You will also oversee a group of Cost Managers on existing work in the Residential sector and assisting growth in Defence and Property. You will have the opportunity to develop this role as a respected and trusted advisor to an important growth initiative for the Project & Cost Management business unit.

About the role

Our client is seeking an enthusiastic, high performing Cost Manager who can demonstrate an ability to engage with design colleagues and client stakeholders. The role will involve:
  • Act as the Employer’s Agent and undertake Contract Administration duties for a broad variety of landmark projects
  • Business Development and Business Planning
  • Development of a cost plans for a complex project utilising Cost X estimating software
  • Managing a supporting team of Cost Management colleagues
  • Advising design colleagues on the cost implications of alternative design options
  • Monthly reporting on cost movement to the Client
  • Engagement in Value Engineering and risk workshops and providing strategic cost advice to both
  • Advising on and supporting procurement of a contractors
  • Delivering the full range of construction stage cost management services
  • Building relationships with design colleagues, Client stakeholder and the Contractor
About you


  • Suitable applicants should be able to demonstrate:Full membership of the RICS / CIOB or +10 years’ experience in specialist subject area
  • Proven experience of commercial leadership of major projects (£50m+)
  • Experience of the cost management of NEC3/4 and JCT construction contracts.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to manage cost reporting meetings with senior client representatives
  • Strong leadership skills
  • A collaborative approach including working with large technical teams
  • A proven ability to deliver to deadlines
  • Ideally will have experience of utilising Cost X or similar estimating software, together with good practical knowledge of Microsoft Software, including Excel, Project and Word
  • UK driving licence
  • Be willing to complete S/C level of security clearance on appointment (to assist Defence Sector)
