Our client an international Bank based in Central London, is seeking a Health & Safety Officer to join their team. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, this vital role ensures that the Bank complies with UK Occupational Health & Safety standards, providing a safe and healthy environment for staff, customers, contractors, and visitors. You'll be instrumental in upholding statutory requirements across the company. The role is permanent and working at their Head office is based in Central London and offers a salary of up to £45,000.

What Does the Role Entail?

As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining fire safety and emergency plans for the Bank, ensuring that robust procedures are in place for all eventualities. You will conduct investigations into any accidents or incidents, ensuring full compliance and implementing corrective and preventive actions where necessary. In addition, you will organise key meetings with employees, branch managers, and department heads to promote safety across the organisation. A significant part of your role involves coordinating the risk assessment programme, and ensuring high-risk activities are managed through a permit-to-work system. You will introduce safety measures to protect staff, maintain detailed health & safety records, and ensure that all statutory documents are up to date. Your responsibilities also include close collaboration with external health & safety consultants, local authorities, and government agencies to maintain best practices across all UK offices. Frequent branch visits across London and the UK will also be required to assess compliance and ensure safety measures are actively followed.

What Skills Will You Have?

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have an IOSH or NEBOSH, with a thorough understanding of UK health & safety laws and regulations. You will need excellent communication skills to liaise with staff at all levels and be capable of building strong working relationships both internally and externally. Being detail-oriented and approachable is essential for this role, as is the ability to handle complex safety issues with confidence. Experience working with external networks such as health & safety consultants, local authorities, and training providers will be beneficial.
